Carl Valentin joins GS1 – Standards that connect supply chains
GS1 is a global, non-profit organization that develops international standards for the unique identification, capture, and exchange of information across the value chain.
These include, for example:
- GTIN (product identification)
- GLN (locations/companies)
- SSCC (logistic units)
- GS1 DataMatrix / GS1 QR for 2D codes
- GDSN for the exchange of product master data
These standards enable transparency, traceability, interoperability, and greater process reliability between manufacturers, retailers, and service providers.
A current priority is the rollout of GS1 2D codes in retail by the end of 2027. This will allow more information (e.g., batch/lot, best-before date, serial number) to be processed directly at the point of sale—benefiting inventory management, quality assurance, and consumer information. For companies, this means aligning labeling, hardware, and software in good time to meet the new requirements.
Carl Valentin has been a GS1 member since October 2025. This underscores our commitment to helping customers implement GS1-compliant solutions in practice—from the correct allocation and use of GTIN/GLN and SSCC labeling through to the transition to GS1 2D codes.
